Here are the groupings for Novice Evaluations starting Sunday Sept. 25th, Oct. 1st and Oct. 2nd:  Please refer to the pre-season schedule for times:

  • A – D (inclusive) – Group 1
  • E – Mac (inclusive) – Group 2
  • Mal… - W (inclusive) – Group 3

Next week the Novice Evaluations begin and there are inevitably a lot of questions about how this process works.  In short, there are three 1-hour sessions for each group (please refer to the schedule). At the beginning of each session, a player will be assigned a jersey with a jersey number (the evaluators will not have this list at any time during the evaluations).  In session #1 and #2, the players will rotate through a series of stations and be evaluated on several fundamental skills.  In the 3rd session, we will have an intra squad game and the player will be rated on skills related to game play.  At the end of the three sessions, all of the players scores from each evaluator, from each week and for each skill will be tabulated and the players will be ranked and placed on teams accordingly.

The top 30 will be placed into Advanced; Players ranked 31-60 will be placed in Intermediate and the remaining will be placed in Novice Development.

I am unsure about the status of the all-female team - and will deal with this directly with the respective parents once the evaluations are completed.  Likely, I would like to have a female-only team – I expect at the Intermediate level - but I will have to wait and see where the final numbers and rankings are – to ensure there are enough players for this team, and to ensure that the categorization is appropriate for the skill level.

Regards,

Jim Bungay

IP / Novice Coordinator
